Some
of Misbehaviour's Picks..There are hundreds of places to go, the east
village and lower east side are full of bars most with DJs: I like Avenue C its pretty vibrant at the weekends here is a couple of spots Nu Blu 62 Avenue C (off 4th Street) 212 979 9925 – Good place for live music and djs Barazza
133, Avenue C, New York City, 212 539 0811. Good
Mojitos and music predominately Latin, very lively. Santos Party House on La fayette @ walker street one block below canal. Fairly new spot good roster of djs huge, sound system, set up for dancing which is nice and getting rarer as most places want you to sit down and buy ridiculously expensive bottles of liquor!!
LIVE VENUES S.O.B.'s 204 Varick is very popular for hip hop gigs (and also latin artists) http://www.sobs.com 212 243 4940 Rose live music 345 Grand st between Havemeyer and marcy in williamsberg. This venue has a great vibe thursdays are a good night with dj misbehavior and mobius collective live starts 10pm Meat Packing District this area has developed so fast in the last few years, worth a wander around here are two spots i like APT

Kiss is quite good for soul classics and r'n'b but again limited playlists make them very repetitive if you listen too much. 89.9 and 89.1 are others to try and any college stations are usually interesting. Flick through there are some great stations for spanish music. 105.1 kinda similar to HOT 97 again individual shows can be good |

Rock
and Soul 7th Avenue between 35th & 35th streets besides the current
records you can buy many unreleased tracks, re mixes, club classic reissues
and they have turntable there for you to listen to stuff, The vinyl section
is rapidly shrinking but its still a low key haunt for some old skool
djs. had a nice chat with Kool herc the other day. A1 Records 6th street between Ave A & 1st Ave. If you are looking for used records this is a great shop although they are expensive, they have turntables so you can spend hours in there listening to music they also sell some current hip hop. There are quite a few record shops in that area of the village anywhere between aves A, B, 1st and 2nd and the Lower East side. in the summer can pick up some good records off street vendors too. Although many of the stores have closed down which is a real shame as now we all have to buy on line and will become more and more insular until the computer is our best and only friend. NB Many record shops won't accept credit cards without a photo ID. |
